Black Friday – The Collapse of the American Shopping Mall

Let’s talk about the word ‘abandoned’, most if not all would associate this word with something forsaken and deserted, like a house … or a kitten – with this we often think dark, dirty and uninviting.  But what if we thought of ‘abandoned’ as something more poetic, a space, object, thing or person who is unrestrained, shameless and dancing with an uninhibited enthusiasm?  Lets think of this word with more positive connotations and focus on more alluring and mysterious qualities.  Photographer Seph Lawless‘ series ‘Black Friday – The Collapse of the American Shopping Mall’, has achieved just that as he focuses on two abandoned shopping malls from the 1970’s – Rolling Acres Mall and Randall Park Mall.  Theres is a certain beauty captured by Lawless in their decay as the spaces surrender to the environment without restraint … you’d be crazy not to take a look!
